Duration: about 1 hour (round trip with kayak)
Departure and return: Roiske, Ounaspaviljonki
Depart from Roiske to follow Kulpinväylä to the Ounasjoki River, and turn left. You will travel downstream with the current towards the Ounasjoki Bridge and Erkkilänsaari Island, which are visible on the horizon.
From the shore, you will see the Koivusaari Nature Trail, along which you will continue paddling all the way to the tip of the Koivusaari Peninsula.
At the tip, you will turn sharply left – and the birdwatching tower on Koivusaari will appear from behind the trees.
Be careful when landing – carefully get out of the kayak onto the pier, lift the kayak onto the deck or tie it to the rope provided on the kayak.
The birdwatching tower offers an excellent resting place and an opportunity to observe local birdlife.
The return is via the same route upstream along Kulpinväylä to Roiske.
