Through a series of coincidences, three enthusiasts passionate about water sports and summer tourism found each other — and that is how the story of Roiske began.

The idea of bringing water-based tourism to Rovaniemi first started growing in Jaakko Tossavainen’s mind back in 2009. The original plan was to establish a water sports center in Rovaniemi, but after several twists and turns, Jaakko ended up founding Vuokatti Water Sports Center in 2014 instead.

In 2015, Miko Ratavaara began searching for a suitable location in Rovaniemi for a water sports center. At the time, the project was still a distant dream, but without fully realizing it, he had already made the decision — one day the dream would become reality.

In 2017, Petteri Savolainen visited Laguuni in Espoo as a customer. The experience made a strong impression on him, and he began to think that a similar concept could also work in Rovaniemi.

When Miko and Petteri heard about each other’s ideas through mutual friends, the project finally got the momentum it needed. Midnight Sun Wake Oy was founded in 2018.

When Jaakko heard about the company being established, he immediately knew he wanted to be involved in building the original dream he had once envisioned. Things moved forward quickly, and Jaakko became the company’s CEO in 2019.

The wheels started turning fast, and in 2021 Roiske officially opened its doors. Rovaniemi had finally gained its own water tourism and activity center.

Passion and a deep appreciation for the surrounding waterways soon began guiding Roiske toward year-round operations. In spring 2023, Roiske piloted its first ice swimming and sauna experiences, which received a highly positive response. Development once again moved quickly, and during the winter season of 2023–2024, Roiske operated its first full winter season with sauna and ice swimming experiences.

Over time, Roiske has found its place among both locals and travelers. During the summer, we serve as a vibrant meeting place by the water with a wide range of activities, while in winter we transform into a refreshing Arctic experience center focused on sauna and ice swimming experiences.

Passion continues to guide the development of our operations, and we want to keep creating unforgettable experiences for both locals and visitors for years to come.
